EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

In this sphere the child needs:

  • To develop self-esteem and a sense of achievement.
  • To be encouraged to express his/her feelings.
  • To be provided with a secure environment.
  • To develop confidence.
  • To be able to cope with fears, anxieties and difficult experiences.

INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT

In this sphere the child needs:

  • To be able to grasp basic mathematical and scientific concepts.
  • To develop language and reasoning skills.
  • To be encouraged to learn through direct experience.
  • To develop concentration and listening skills.
  • To develop observational skills.
  • To develop creativity and use of the imagination.

  • Assessing our success by ensuring our school is characterised by happy children and motivated staff who look forward to each new day together at Stepping Stones Pre-Primary School and now at Sandhurst Preparatory College

  • Large sand pits and bicycle tracks, water tables, tactile and sensory tables, loads of graded gross motor apparatus; appropriate to your child's age and ability.
  • Weekly music lessons with movement and instrument work.
  • Annual school concerts to show you how talented your children really are!
  • Wendy houses and clamber apparatus in several astro-turfed gardens.
  • Secret gardens with fairies and wind chimes!
  • School Sports day and Beetle derby.
  • Monthly Theatre and/or puppet shows at school - aligned with the class themes.
  • Auditory and visual screening annually.
  • Baking every week.
  • Weekly lending library. Wide selection of Videos and CD's to add value to the child's learning experience.
  • Visits from the fire department, farm animals and others.
  • Trips and outings to the Planetarium, Delta Park Environmental Centre, Monte Casino Bird Park or the Johannesburg Zoo.
  • A very active PTA that manages several special social events annually. These include a Parental event - Theatre/outing, a sponsored walk and an art auction or similar child-centred event.
